As the founder of Sleep Audiobooks, I want to share my personal journey with sleep issues and explain how I came to create Sleep Audiobooks. I also will showcase the evolution of the content and resources available on the platform. Early Life

Growing up in Pennsylvania, I had a childhood filled with the beauty of nature and the excitement of video games. My time in Switzerland, where I lived for two years between the ages of 12 and 14, further enriched my life experiences and broadened my horizons. As a nerdy kid with a penchant for collecting things like rocks and coins, I was always eager to learn and explore the world around me. However, even in my early years, I faced challenges with sleep that would later play a significant role in my journey toward founding Sleep Audiobooks.

Education and Professional Experience

After earning dual degrees in Business and Arts from Penn State, I embarked on a diverse career path that allowed me to hone my skills in various creative and technical fields. My professional journey began with a full-time position at the university, where I produced documentary and educational videos. As a freelance graphic designer and videographer, I had the opportunity to collaborate with numerous tech startups, non-profits, and prominent companies, such as CollegeHumor, BitAngels, and UPenn.

This rich tapestry of experiences not only expanded my understanding of different media formats but also introduced me to audio production, a skill that would later prove invaluable when developing Sleep Audiobooks.

Struggles with Sleep

My sleep issues can be traced back to my earliest memories, when bedtime stories from my parents would often leave me wide awake long after they had left the room (or drifted off themselves). In high school, I was frequently tired throughout the day, but my sleep problems truly escalated during college. Despite my best efforts to manage them, my sleep issues continued to worsen for years after graduating, severely affecting my health and mental well-being.

There came a turning point when I realized that I had to dedicate myself to learning how to sleep properly. This journey took many years of learning, trial and error, and guidance from family members and friends in the medical field. Finally, I can confidently say that I’ve learned to manage my sleep issues, which has had a profound impact on my overall quality of life.

Discovering the Sleep Solution

In addition to adopting healthy daytime habits, taking supplements, and creating a calming bedtime routine, I discovered that listening to people speak softly as I fell asleep was incredibly helpful in overcoming my sleep issues. Some of the most effective content I found were audiobooks on philosophy, such as Deleuze and Guattari’s “A Thousand Plateaus.” These audiobooks quickly became an indispensable tool in my sleep-improvement arsenal.

When I later discovered black screen ambiance sounds, I had an epiphany: combining these calming sounds with audiobooks could create the ultimate sleep aid. This inspired the creation of Sleep Audiobooks, a unique solution to help others struggling with sleep issues, just like I once did.

Building Sleep Audiobooks

With the goal of helping others improve their sleep, I created a YouTube channel to share this innovative combination of audiobooks and black screen ambiance sounds. After a few months, the channel gained traction and now boasts over 20,000 subscribers. We post new audiobooks every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, sourced from the public domain website Librivox.org as well as exclusive narrations by hired narrators.

To further expand our offerings, we are currently developing a website filled with articles and additional sleep tools. Our site will feature product research, exclusive products like bedtime coloring books, and a free PDF guide for those who subscribe to our mailing list. As Sleep Audiobooks continues to grow, we remain committed to providing valuable resources to help people achieve a good night’s rest.
